brandtIt’s no secret that I’m obsessed with anti-aging products.  Frankly, I’m beginning to bore myself with the obsession, so I’m sure you’re right there with me.  BUT…the obsession probably isn’t going to end any time soon, and I’ve got products to tell you about…so I’ll stop whining about boring myself and get on with the important work of boring you!

My good friends at The Mother Ship (aka Sephora) do a pretty decent job of rewarding my loyalty, and I continue to do a pretty good job of tithing, so together, we agreed on all of these Dr. Brandt Skincare products to try out.    Dr. Brandt made quite a career out of injectibles and as the skinmetologist to the Stars, so if he was willing to label a product “Needles No More” and charge $89.00 for a half-ounce of the stuff, I figured it had to be amazing.  Well, my official verdict on it is a solid “meh”.   I suspect that if you had not spent a lifetime worshipping the sun without sunscreen, weren’t solidly in your 40’s,  and only had a few fine lines to treat, this product would do a pretty great job.  Sadly that isn’t my reality.  I was slightly more impressed with the $67.00 Firming Neck Cream and really liked the $58.00 PoreDermabrasion.  It’s a super-fine exfoliator that reminds me a lot of an actual dermabrasion treatment.   To wrap up this little segment, I’ll just tell you that at $155.00 the Do Not Age Beauty Sleep Serum might be the biggest scam product I’ve ever used.  Frankly, you can get Botox for the same price, and I promise you it will work as well.  This serum wasn’t even particularly moisturizing and while I’ll continue to use it until it’s all gone, I’ll be reviewing another product in the near future that retails at a fraction of the cost and works so much better.

Moving on to products that won’t require a second mortgage oantiagingn your house, I tried a couple of natural serums that retail at about $25.00 each and absolutely work as well as the Dr. Brandt line.  I’m pretty much addicted to Vitamin C Serums these days and recently couldn’t figure out why my skin wasn’t looking spectacular until I realized that I hadn’t been using a Vitamin C serum.  This one, from Cos Naturals is a light, liquidy formula that also contains Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide in an odorless, quick dry formula.  I like to use this in the morning before I put on moisturizer, primer, oil or whatever the plan for the day ends up being.  It dries extremely quickly and leaves your skin feeling a little bit tighter and refreshed.  For my skin, this isn’t even close to enough moisture for nighttime use, however, so I have been turning to the Complete Skin Solutions Niacinamide Pure Vitamin B3 Serum. This product contains loads of natural oil and plant extracts in addition to the Niacinamide to hydrate while imparting those anti-aging effects.  Also odorless, this product is cruelty-free and in a very well-designed container to minimize waste.  I use this one like I use my other serums, on a freshly washed face prior to using the other lotions and potions I have planned – I just use this one at night.  I’m starting to think I’m on to something with this combo of Vitamin C and Vitamin B – but I’m here to tell you – nothing will replace injectibles for wrinkle blasting.

These products were received at no cost in exchange for a review.  The opinions expressed are my own, unbiased thoughts after testing each for a minimum of seven days.

  1. Totally agree on the Dr. Brandt…though I’m holding out hope on the mask version that I still need to try. I swear it seemed to work some in the first week yet now does nothing. At 38, I’m not one who expects miracles from a topical product either but had the same thought process as you. I’ve only got the fine lines around my mouth that drive me mad. One is minuscule but the other is quite prominent due to my smirk I can’t seem to control. My forehead is fabulous, [Thanks botox ;)] so no worries there…I actually own a rather inexpensive nip/fab version of a no needles type product that actually works better than the Dr. Brandt. Maybe you would like it as well…on another note that Lancome sleeping mask from the allure box did wonders for plumping up my skin! What did you think of it?
