Since my current habit seems to be purchasing eye and reviewing eye shadow palettes, I figure I had better go ahead and jump into this one. This gorgeous palette is the Serpentina palette from Kat Von D Beauty. The palette is inspired by ancient Egypt and comes with 8 jeweled tone shadows and one pot of loose pigment in a gold color called Prophet.
The palette itself is gorgeous. The deep case has gold embossed print, looks a bit like a sarcophagus, and is absolutely a thing of beauty. Whoever designed this bad boy definitely deserves a raise. The swatches are gorgeous. And, that’s about all I can say that’s positive.
I am really, really trying to love this brand. There are lots of things to love about the brand. All items are 100% cruelty free. The packaging is all insanely gorgeous. Kat herself is very cool and artsy and seems like my kind of woman. But for some reason, the love for this line is just not there and I can’t seem to find it.
I tried the eyeliners after rave reviews. I bought 4. I gave them all away. This palette swatches beautifully – the colors are rich and deep and jewel-toned just like they look in the palette. The problem is that there is a really fine line between blending these shadows and having them blend away to nothingness. I thought it was just me. I mean, I’m not a professional make-up artist, it’s entirely possible that I just wasn’t doing something right, right?
I posted my thoughts on Instagram and a couple of people that I really respect said that it wasn’t just me. Their experience was the same. Then it hit me. I had no choice but to return it. I certainly don’t *need* eye shadow. Not even really beautiful jeweled tone shadows in a gorgeous package. And with a $45 dollar credit at The Mother Ship, I could purchase any one of countless items I also don’t need.
The next day, I returned it. Here’s my consolation prize(s)!
Reviews on these little treats will happen at some point. In the meantime, my rating for the Serpentina palette is:
2 wands – for how gorge the actual palette is.
Thanks for reading, beauties!
